Summary
WHY ALUMINIUM FIXED ASSET LABELS
Fixed assets management is an accounting process that seeks to track fixed assets for the purposes of financial accounting, preventive maintenance, and theft deterrence.
Organizations face a significant challenge to track the location, quantity, condition, maintenance and depreciation status of their fixed assets. A popular approach to tracking fixed assets uses serial numbered fixed aluminium Asset Tags or fixed aluminium asset labels, which are labels often with bar codes for an easy and accurate reading. Periodically, the owner of the assets can take inventory with a mobile bar code reader and then produce a report.
The importance, however, lies in the durability and longevity of the asset label to remain on the asset to ensure that the asset can be identified and tracked throughout its life cycle. Aluminium asset labels are by far the most durable out of the fixed options from plastic labels to RFID tags.
ALUMINIUM TAGS FOR A NUMBER OF TRACKING SOLUTIONS
The high-definition print quality permits the inclusion of company logos and descriptive text on a label in single or multi-colour, even on a small label, resulting in a barcode which is attractive and ideal for scanning equipment. The high-quality adhesive may be pre-applied to the rear of the barcode labels when required by customers, with two types being available.
The cheaper of the adhesives permits “peel off and stick” application, while the more expensive one requires activation with industrial acetone prior to application. If the activation process and subsequent application are carried out correctly, this adhesive ensures that the barcode cannot be removed from the surface to which it is adhering without either destroying the label itself or the underlying surface. The durability of the anodised aluminium surface, together with the high-quality adhesive, ensures that a label remains legible and attached to an asset for its useful life.
HOW DOES THE ACETONE ADHESIVE WORK & TIPS
To start, ensure that the surface on which the tag is to be placed is clean. To decrease the surface use IPA (ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL) (available from the local chemist).
Remove the white backing strip from the rear of the tag to expose the brown adhesive. (If you touch the adhesive now it will not be sticky).
Moisten a cloth / earbud / sponge with the industrial-grade acetone and then use that to moisten the adhesive.
Allow 20 to 30 seconds for the acetone to “activate” the adhesive. (If you touch the adhesive now it will be sticky).
Place the tag on the receiving surface and apply some finger pressure to the tag for a few seconds to assist the adhesive to bed down and bind.
Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to “cure” before attempting to dislodge.
Industrial Grade Acetone should be available at the local hardware store (Do not use the acetone from the local chemist, unless it is Industrial grade)
DURABLACK LASER MARKABLE ALUMINIUM ASSET TAGS
Durable Labels, Nameplates and Signs with Any CO₂ Laser.
DuraBlack™ is CO₂ laser markable aluminum for durable, on-demand marking for harsh operating environments. In side-by-side tests, DuraBlack outperforms black anodized aluminum and laser markable acrylic tape in select applications. DuraBlack is resistant to sunlight (UV-radiation), abrasion, high-temperatures, salt-spray and chemical exposure. Because of its ability to perform across a range of challenging environments, DuraBlack meets several government, industrial and military specifications including MIL-STD 130N, A-A-50271 (≈MIL-P-514D) and MIL-STD-15024F, Type L.
Composed of a multi-level coating available upon 0.005” or 0.020” thick aluminum, DuraBlack can be attached to either curved or flat surfaces with adhesive, rivets or screws. It is imaged with any CO₂ marking laser to produce a durable, high-resolution barcode or human-readable image.
Product Benefits:
Durable Performance
- Meets Item Unique Identification (UID) military bar code performance standards for
many applications.
- Resistant to weather/UV, abrasion, high-temperatures, salt-spray and fluid exposure.
- Produces durable, high-resolution barcode or human-readable images.
- Integrated abrasion resistant coating reduces the need to apply a protective topcoat.
- Matte finish reduces reflection for combat situations.
Easy Processing
- Easy to mark and produce “A” verification grade labels with any CO₂ laser.
- Aluminum backing eliminates potential damage from over-marking.
Flexible Attachment Options
- Attachment options include 3M 350 high-performance adhesive, rivets or screws.
- Available in 0.005” or 0.020” thicknesses for adherence to either curved or flat surfaces.
- Available in pre-cut blanks from several independent converters so all you need to do is mark and apply.
The combination of durability, flexible attachment options and ease of processing make DuraBlack the preferred material for on-demand marking for harsh operating environments.
Anodised Aluminium Tags
Aluminum Tags are preprinted Asset tags done by our approved supplier, these Tags have an acetone adhesive or a 3M Peel and Stick adhesive which does not require industrial grade acetone to be applied to the tag. Please see second attachment on how to apply acetone activated adhesive to an asset/item.
